AI Visibility as a Lead Generation Channel for UK Brokers and Claims Companies
Old model works. It's getting expensive. It's losing share. Here is the bridge.
Sector · Brokers, CMC, Credit Hire·April 2026
This is sometimes called Answer Engine Optimisation, or AEO. We use AI Visibility throughout because it is the language most leadership teams already use.
For the past decade, paid intent capture via Google Ads has been the dominant lead-acquisition playbook for UK insurance brokers and claims management companies. The model works. Bid on a high-intent term, capture the click, convert the call. Specialist brokers compete for "taxi insurance broker UK" or "fleet insurance 5 vehicles". Credit hire and CMC operators bid on insurer brand terms to capture non-fault claims at the point of need. Different targets, same channel.
Two things are shifting underneath that playbook. Cost per click on the high-intent commercial-motor and claims terms is climbing 10 to 18 per cent year on year. ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews are absorbing 15 to 25 per cent of the searches that used to land in standard Google results.
The arithmetic of paid acquisition is getting more expensive while the channel itself is quietly shrinking.
Most brokers and CMCs are still buying leads in that shrinking channel and have no AI visibility strategy at all. They are already behind.

A Real Example · This Quarter

FEWER THAN HALF
Of 16 buyer-intent queries cite the brand as a source, on average
The content exists.The visibility doesn't.
The risk
The risk is not bad service. The risk is being absent from the conversation.
The ROI Anchor
Every cited query is a paid click you don't have to buy.
AI engines are now 56% the size of search globally (HubSpot AEO research, May 2026). When buyers ask AI for the best taxi insurer, the brand cited becomes the brand contacted. The lever is simple. Shift inbound from paid channels to organic AI citations. Savings show up in the paid budget. Gains show up in unit economics. Finance directors recognise that maths.
From the field
AI is now 56% the size of search worldwide.
Buyers research suppliers inside ChatGPT and Perplexity before they ever visit a website. AI Visibility is no longer a future-state.

The mechanics
Earned, not paid
Why AI Visibility is not a like-for-like substitute. Yet.
AI visibility is earned, not paid. The AI engines decide who to cite based on what they have crawled, what they trust, and what schema they can read. There is no "buy this slot" button in mainstream AI search today.
The schema foundation work (FAQPage, Organisation, InsuranceAgency, LocalBusiness) is the equivalent of organic SEO. Necessary, defensible, compounding. The lead-generative levers, however, already exist. And the foundation has to be in place before the paid layer launches, because paid AI search will preference brands the engines already cite.
Why now
Paid AI search is being built. Sponsored AI Overviews are in US testing. ChatGPT Search has announced ad units. Perplexity already runs sponsored answers. When that channel opens, it will preference brands the engines have already learned to cite. The brokers and CMCs that built the foundation in 2026 will pay materially less per impression in 2027. Same dynamic as early Google Ads adopters in 2003.
The four levers that already work
Decision-stage Q&A. The conversion layer. The questions a buyer asks at the point of need. The brand cited in the AI answer is the brand the buyer calls.
Comparison and "vs" content. AI engines preferentially cite comparison content for branded queries. Same logic as Google Ads brand bidding.
Listicle placement. AI engines cite listicles disproportionately for "best X" queries. Less glamorous than schema. Moves the needle faster.
Brand reputation in third-party content. Trade press, podcasts, expert quotes. Insurers are starting to play this game. Brokers and CMCs largely are not.
Across UK broker and CMC audits, Product, Listicle and Guide content win 90% of cited slots across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. Plain blog posts move the needle less than people assume.
A note on attribution. AI Visibility gives you directional evidence of where AI-referred demand is going. Share of Voice, citation share, bot crawl activity, AI-referred human traffic in GA4. Direct revenue attribution from AI Visibility is unsolved across the industry, including by the platform vendors making the boldest claims. We will not pretend otherwise. The work informs SEO, PR and content investment. It does not promise a revenue lift.

Verify what AI engines can already see.
Verify your domain in Google Search Console. Submit your sitemap. Run URL Inspection on your top 10 service and location pages. The schema work in Step 01 only pays off on pages Google has actually indexed. Where Google Search Console access is available, we also mine your GSC query data (last 90 days, top 100 impressions) to ground the 16-query Share of Voice test in your actual buyer language rather than assumed prompts.

The question is no longer whether AI search will impact lead generation.
It already is.
The question is who the engines learn to cite first. The brokers and CMCs that build the foundation now will pay materially less per impression when paid AEO opens up.
